Double Eyelid Surgery in Korea

The world has witnessed an increase in the popularity of plastic surgery as technology advances in healthcare. Korea has been said to be the world’s capital of plastic surgery with more per capita procedures than any other country and the most popular procedure in Korea is the double eyelid surgery. Many people have opted to go for this surgery as it lets them have more expressive and bigger looking eyes. In Korean culture, larger eyes are typically associated with being more beautiful.

Double eyelid surgery also came as a permanent solution for people with mono eyelids. This is because they no longer need to use eyelid tape as a temporary measure of achieving double eyelids. If you are considering having this plastic surgery in Korea, there are three main methods you can choose from. These are:

  1. Full incision method

This is a long-term procedure that involves the removal of excess muscle, fat, and skin of the eyelid. The surgeon configures the entire eyelid tissue by extending the eyelid line beyond the last third part of the eye. This will help give a natural eyelid fold.

  1. Buried sutured method

This was the first method discovered used to create eyelid folds. The technique involves non-incision and non-invasive procedures. Here, the surgeon will create folds by knotting small stitches, called sutures, just above the eyes. This option is ideal for those people who have been lifting their eyelids using double eyelid tape as the feeling is pretty similar. The good thing about this method is that one can revert back their eyes to the original state if they would like.

  1. Partial incision method

This is an alternative method to both the full incision and buried suture techniques. In this method, the skin tissues and fats are lessened by creating a segment of small incisions along the eyelid. Unlike the full incision, the line of the eyelid here is extended to the last third portion of the eye.

When this method was first introduced, people preferred it over the full incision method because it left smaller, less noticeable scars.  However, the full incision method is now recommended by doctors since scars can now be minimized.

How Long to Stay in Korea for an Eyelid Surgery

After understanding the primary methods of eyelid surgery available, you will need some time set aside to go for this procedure. It is recommended that you allocate yourself a minimum of one week. The surgery itself will take less than an hour to complete, but you will need 2 or 3 more days to recover fully.

Double eyelid surgery is only a day procedure in Korea, and you will only need to spend a few hours under observation after the procedure. However, you should not leave Korea until the stitches in your eyes are removed just in case there were complications in how your lids healed. This will depend on the method of surgery performed, but typically it takes about 5 to 7 days after surgery.

Recovery time for Eyelid Surgery

The results of the eyelid surgery do not happen immediately as any surgery requires some time to recover. The bruising and swelling which are post operation effects disappear within a month. It generally takes about 3 months to fully recover after eyelid surgery before a natural double eyelid look can be seen.

However, other factors also determine the period it takes to recover. Sine factors are the type of surgical procedure undertaken and the thickness of the patient’s eyelid skin. Some people may even take up to 1 year for results to be seen.

Cost of Double Eyelid Surgery in Korea

Several things determine the cost of getting eyelid surgery. Some of these determinants are the type of operation, the experience of the surgeon, and also the clinic location. However, you can expect the price to range between $500 to $4500. The price also varies from town to town, and if you choose to go to Seoul, the average cost of eyelid surgery is approximately $2000.

Before going for double eyelid surgery, it’s good you let the doctor evaluate the situation and give you the best procedure suited for you. This will help avoid any complication to your eyelids as it is a delicate part of the body. However, you should do a proper background check of the doctor you choose before proceeding with the procedure.
